Butterfly Pretzels

Here's how to make butterfly pretzels, a charming and easy spring treat that's sweet and salty and perfect for the season.

Ingredients

  • Mini pretzels
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Pastel-colored candy melts (pink, blue, green, orange)
  • White non-pareil sprinkles
  • Wax or parchment paper

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowlsfood tweezers or small utensils like two forks to dip

Method

  1. Preparation: Begin by laying out a sheet of wax or parchment paper on your work surface. This will be where you place your dipped pretzels to set.
  2. Melting the Candy: For each color of candy melt, use a separate microwave-safe bowl. Heat the candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until the candy is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Dipping the Pretzels: I like using a food tweezer it's way less messy and easier to dip! First break a pretzel stick in half and dip that fully. Set aside on the wax paper. Hold a mini pretzel by the edges and dip it into the candy melt, coating it fully.  Gently shake off the excess candy melt and place the pretzel next to the stick. Repeat for the other butterfly wing with one other pretzel.
  4. Adding Sprinkles: While the candy melt is still wet, sprinkle the white non-pareils over the pretzels. This will give your butterflies an elegant dotted appearance.
  5. Setting: Allow your pretzels to set at room temperature until the candy melt has hardened. If you’re in a rush, you can also place them in the refrigerator for a few minutes.
  6. Presentation: Once set, carefully peel the butterfly pretzels off the wax paper and arrange them on a platter. They’re ready to be admired and enjoyed!

Notes

  • If the candy melt thickens as you work, simply reheat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
  • If you’re making these with kids, let them be creative with the sprinkles and use colorful ones!
