Fish Cupcakes Recipe

Whip up some super fun fish cupcakes in a jiffy with a simple cake mix, colorful frosting, and playful candy toppings. Kids are going to love these cute and yummy sea-themed treats!

Ingredients

  • Your favorite cake mix (plus the ingredients listed on the box)
  • Store-bought frosting
  • Gel food coloring in various colors
  • Colorful candy for the scales and mouth (like Skittles or M&Ms)
  • Candy eyes
  • Muffin tin
  • Cupcake liners

Method

  1. Bake the cupcakes: Start by baking your cupcakes. Prepare the cake mix according to the instructions on the box. Line your muffin tin with cupcake liners, fill them about two-thirds of the way with the batter, and bake as directed. Once baked, allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the frosting: While your cupcakes are cooling, use your gel food coloring to color your frosting any color(s) you want. Once the cupcakes are fully cooled, spread the frosting generously on each cupcake. You can even try to make swirls like waves!
  3. Add the candy scales: Now it's time for the fun part - decorating! Take your colorful candy and place on the sides of your cupcake to make them look like fish scales.
  4. Attach the candy eyes: Next, place a candy eyes on each cupcake. Press gently into the frosting to make sure they stick.
  5.  Create a cute mouth: Use two candies in the same color to make a puckery mouth.
  6.  Final touches: Get creative with the presentation! You could sprinkle some edible glitter or sugar crystals to represent the sparkling ocean.
