Why is this a good Valentine lunch to make with kids?

This Valentine’s Day pizza is easy for kids to make for several reasons!

  1. Simple Steps: Kids can easily spread sauce and cheese, and use a cookie cutter to make heart shapes.
  2. Quick to Cook: It only takes 5 minutes in the air fryer, which is fast for a hungry kid.
  3. No Mess: Using tortillas means no messy dough to clean up.
  4. Fun and Festive: The heart shapes make it special for Valentine’s Day.
  5. Just Right Size: Tortillas make the perfect kid-sized pizza, so there’s no waste.

How to vary up your Valentine’s Day Pizza

  • Use different cookie cutter shapes like stars or circles.
  • Swap pepperoni for ham, chicken, or veggies.
  • Try different cheeses like cheddar or feta.
  • Add a sprinkle of herbs like basil or oregano for extra flavor.

How to make Valentine’s Day Tortilla Pizza

  1. Prepare the Workspace: Clear a clean area on the kitchen counter and gather all your ingredients. Make sure you have a small cookie cutter in the shape of a heart ready to go.
  2. Tortilla Layers: Take one tortilla and spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the surface, leaving a small border around the edge. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
  3. Cutting Heart Shapes: Using the small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out several hearts from the second tortilla. This is a part where kids can have extra fun!
  4. Layering the Tortillas: Place the second tortilla on top of the first, aligning them so that the borders match. This will create a ‘window’ effect with the heart shapes.
  5. Adding Pepperoni: Slide a slice of pepperoni under each heart cut-out in the top tortilla. The red of the pepperoni will peek through, creating a cute heart pattern.
  6. Brushing with Olive Oil: Lightly brush the top of the tortilla pizza with olive oil. This will help the tortilla turn golden and crisp up in the air fryer.
  7. Air Frying: Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Carefully place the tortilla pizza in the air fryer and cook for about 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the tortillas are crispy to your liking.
  8. Serving: Once done, remove the pizza from the air fryer and let it cool for a minute or two before cutting. The tortilla pizza will be hot, so be careful not to burn yourself.
  9. Enjoy: Slice up your Valentine’s Day tortilla pizza and serve! This is a perfect dish to pair with a salad or some veggies for a full meal.

Notes

You may also use a pan over low-medium heat, just make sure to flip the tortilla once the bottom has had a chance to melt some of the cheese.
