Marshmallow Flower Cupcakes – Ingredients:
- Your favorite box of cake mix (and the ingredients it calls for, typically water, oil, and eggs)
- Ready-made vanilla frosting
- Large marshmallows
- Colored sanding sugar (yellow, pink, and blue)
- Mini candy-coated chocolates for the flower centers
How to make flower marshmallow cupcakes – easy spring treat
Step 1: Cupcakes
Begin by following the instructions on your cake mix box to whip up a batch of cupcake batter. We used vanilla but you can use any flavor. When they’re done, let them cool completely before decorating.
Step 2: Frosting
Frost each cupcake with the ready-made frosting giving it a generous swirl with an offset spatial, butter knife or back of a spoon. This acts as the glue for our marshmallow petals.
Step 3: Marshmallow Petals
Take a large marshmallow and cut it in half with scissors. This will give you two petals. Repeat this until you have enough petals for all of your cupcakes. We used 5 per cupcake.
Step 4: Sanding Sugar
Pour your colored sugar into small bowls. Press the cut side of each marshmallow petal into the colored sugar of your choice to coat it. This is where you can get creative—mix and match colors, or keep it monochromatic.
Step 5: Flower Assembly
Arrange the sugared marshmallow petals on top of the frosted cupcakes, sugared side up, to resemble flower petals. Add a colored candy in the center to finish off the flower design.
Final thoughts
Your marshmallow flower cupcakes are ready to bloom and impress at any spring party! These are so simple to make, yet they look like you’ve spent hours in the kitchen. They’re fun to make with the kids if you need a spring treat. Bring them to a picnic, serve them at a bridal shower, or simply brighten up your weekend.
