This is the most chocolatey cake with the cutest little piggies! Find out how to make this simple and adorable pigs in a mud bath cake!

This little piggy went to the market and these little piggies went straight to the bath! Chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate Kit Kat bars and chocolate pudding…this pig in a mud bath cake is for the chocolate lovers and it’s such an easy cake to make! The kids will be able to complete almost every baking step along the way.

My 4 year old son @DashBakesTheGreats is sharing one of his favorite Pinterest-inspired cakes. We decided to make a version as easy as possible so your children can enjoy and bake along!

What are some substitutions for the cake?

Although we usually like to make most recipes easy, especially when the kids are in the kitchen doing most of the work, you could easily use your favorite made from scratch chocolate cake recipe. If you have a favorite chocolate frosting or buttercream recipe as well, might as well make that too. If you’ve decided to make everything homemade, you’re going to want to probably make your own pudding as well!

There’s no substitution for the Kit Kat Bars in our opinion, but there are some new flavors of Kit Kats you might want to try, Strawberry and Dark Chocolate, Mint and Dark Chocolate, Mocha + Chocolate, or White Chocolate.

If you want to be extra creative and you’re talented with fondant, instead of the plastic piggy figurines, you could make the little piggies out of fondant.

Pigs in a Mud Bath Cake – Ingredients:

Chocolate Cake (use a plain store-bought grocery one with just chocolate frosting) or your favorite chocolate cake mix

Chocolate Frosting

35-40 single Kit Kat Bars

Chocolate Pudding (store-bought refrigerated is fine!)

8 Miniature Pink Piggy Cake Toppers (you could also make your own out of fondant if you’re savvy in that area!)

Ribbon

How do you make Pigs in a Mud Bath Cake?

If using a cake mix, prepare as instructed on the box into two 9″ or 8″ layer cakes. We used a boxed chocolate cake mix for this recipe, but we’ve also used our favorite one bowl chocolate cake recipe in the past and it’s delicious. Bake according to instructions and let cool.

To keep this recipe quick and simple we also used store-bought chocolate frosting. Once the cake is cooled, spread chocolate frosting on top of cake and sides (so the Kit Kat bars stay in place and have something to “stick” to).

Place Kit Kat bars vertically, all next to each other, along the side of the cake and all the way around.

Mix your chocolate pudding according to directions and spread onto frosting to create a “mud bath” for your piggies.

Wash the piggy figurines beforehand and make sure they’ve dried before arranging on top of the cake. Mud bath time!! Place your piggies lightly onto and into the pudding.

Place a ribbon around the center of the Kit Kats and tie a bow. It’s a cute addition and it will help hold the Kit Kat bars in place. Wash and dry your ribbon if you are worried about it touching the Kit Kats.
