How do you make the “eyeballs” on this pasta?

The fun part about this spooky pasta recipe is the eyeballs! I just use cut-up black lives to lay them over the top. The kids find it hilarious and I know it’s a win because it’s something that they’re actually going to want to eat.

Can you change up the type of cheese you use?

Absolutely. We love to use shredded mozzarella cheese but use what the kids will eat. This recipe is all for them basically as it is so make certain to add in ingredients that they love. Shredded Colby jack is also a fan favorite in our house.

Ingredients Needed To Make Halloween Baked Pasta

  • rigatoni pasta
  • olive oil
  • tomato
  • basil
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • heavy cream
  • cream cheese
  • ricotta cheese
  • black olive slices
  • sliced mozzarella

INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE HALLOWEEN BAKED PASTA

  • Cook the Rigatoni in a large pot of salted, boiling water. Cook it about 1 minute less than the package directions so it is still hard enough to stand up.
  • Drain the pasta and rinse under cold water. Toss pasta with 1 Tablespoon of oil to prevent it from sticking.
  • Using your hands, stand each tube of rigatoni up in the pan in a single layer covering the entire base of the pan.
  • Mix cream cheese, ricotta cheese and cream cheese in a bowl
  • Spread over the pasta using a spatula. Make sure the cheeses go through the pie holes.
  • In a bowl, mix the grated tomato, salt, pepper and basil thoroughly. and drizzle over pasta
  • Finally, sprinkles of the grated mozzarella
  • Bake in a 400F oven for 15-20 minutes.
  • Cut the mozzarella slices with the help of a round mold.
  • Put the olive slices on them and place them on the pasta, forming ‘eyeballs’.

How to store leftover pasta

Since this makes such a large dish, you’re going to have some leftovers. Just store it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for later.

How to reheat leftover pasta

When you’re ready to eat it again, just pop it in the microwave for a short time. I always add on some extra cheese at that time, too. Or you can reheat gently in an oven but it will take you longer and the pasta may dry out.
