We had made a similar princess cake and this Elsa cake was simple as well to make. If you’re looking for a delightful cake that will get lots of “wows” and excitement whether at home or at a birthday party, read on to see how easy it is to make this princess cake!
What do you need to make an Elsa Princess Cake?
To keep it simple, we used a yellow cake mix like Betty Crocker and store-bought vanilla frosting. We used blue gel food coloring for the frosting and cake. Two other items you will need is an Elsa doll and princess cake mold. That’s it!
Don’t worry the Elsa cake won’t get soiled as you’ll see when you read on how we made the cake!

First, prepare your cake mix per the instructions. Add a few drops of blue food gel coloring to make the cake blue. Note the cake will look green after baking since yellow and blue make green! But when you slice into the cake it will look blue like Elsa’s dress!
Spray your cake mold with nonstick spray and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 34-40 minutes. If the top gets too golden before the bottom, add a loose piece of foil on top to cover.
Remove cake and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a cake stand or baking pan.
Tint your icing a similar blue and reserve some white.
You’ll wrap Elsa’s bottom half tightly in plastic so she won’t get dirty.
Insert Elsa inside the center of the cake. Make the hole larger as needed by slicing around the hold and removing cake.
Now here is the tricky part. We got a 6″ cake princess mold but our Elsa was too tall! You will likely need an 8 inch if you use the exact doll we used so keep that in mind.
We didn’t let that stop us though and instead just added blue cups. They made Elsa a sort of stand and it didn’t look too bad!
Add a layer of white frosting around her waist. Then add swirls of blue frosting all along the cake princess dress part. We used a star tip and piping bag.
Then use a smaller star tip and add dots of white frosting along her skirt!
Making this easy princess dress was so fun and easy! It’s a wonderful thing to do with your kids, especially if they love princesses or want a princess themed party!
