This trifle dessert is so simple my 4 year old @DashBakesTheGreats was able to make it!
Why is the dessert called a trifle?
A trifle is an English dessert most often consisting of sponge or pound cake that has been soaked in brandy, sherry, or white wine. It’s traditionally layered with custard, jam, or fruit and finally is topped with whipped cream.
At trifle is typically served as a dessert in glass dessert cups or a deep, round dish, a trifle dish showing all of its delicious layers.
Could you make substitutions to the Strawberry Trifle recipe?
There are so many trifle recipes in general online. The possibilities are endless really. For this particular recipe you could make your own pound cake and homemade custard.
A berry mix of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and/or blackberries would make this even more festive for the 4th of July or Memorial Day.
If you’d like to add some chocolate, a layer of chocolate syrup drizzle on top of the custard layer would also be delicious as well as with chocolate pound cake and chocolate pudding.
You could also consider using a strawberry-flavored yogurt instead of the pudding.
How many layers in a desert trifle?
Three layers are ideal but depending on what ingredients or type of trifle you decide to make, you could easily make it two or even 4 layers. Cutting into each layer and getting a little bit of each ingredient is key.
How do you serve a trifle to your guests?
As everyone admires all of the delicious layers through the glass dish, you know they will want a part of each layer! Simply scoop out a section of the trifle with a large and long enough spoon. Keeping the layers mostly intact, scoop all the way down to the bottom of the trifle dish
