This is the best ice cream sandwich hack! Make the perfect ice cream sandwich every time with this simple trick.
Summer’s around the corner and that means summer treats and ice cream is in season! My family and I love indulging in ice cream sandwiches once in a while but can never quite get the perfect ratio of cookies to ice cream. This simple trick really is the best ice cream sandwich hack. Take a pint of ice cream, cut a sharp knife through (we recommend a serrated knife for best results – adults only!), and get perfectly round slices of ice cream!

Do you get even slices every time with this ice cream hack?
Truthfully the first slice closest to the top is the largest and the third closest to the bottom is the smallest. However, when sandwiched between cookies you can hardly notice the difference as you can see in the photos! My kids didn’t even notice or care for the couple of spoofuls of ice cream missing. They were just super happy to indulge in an ice cream sandwich!
What kind of ice cream and cookies can you use?
The good news is you can use any kind of ice cream (or dairy-alternative) or sorbet, sherbert as long as it’s in a paper pint container! Obviously cutting through plastic (these days ice cream do come in plastic containers) would be harder and I wouldn’t recommend it since small shards of plastic could get lodged in the ice cream.
We used large store-bought chocolate chip cookies but have often made our own! Here’s our favorite recipe for skillet chocolate chip cookies.

6 larges cookies (any flavor)

Large serrated knife

Ingredients
- Pint Pint of ice cream Any flavor
- 6 Large Bakery style cookies
- 1 Large Serrated knife
Instructions
- Place your pint of ice cream down a cutting board lengthwise and slice off just the very top where the lid is. Then slice off 3 slices as evenly as possible. Note the top will be slightly larger than the other two slices and the bottom smallest.
- Immediately place in between two cookies (remove the wrapper packaging).
- Eat right away or place on a tray and freeze for later.
