We tried the pesto egg recipe everyone on the internet is raving about. There’s a reason why everyone is on Tiktok is making it!
We love an easy egg hack recipe and can often rely on TikTok food trends to get the latest food hacks to try! Eggs are a favorite because they are easy, affordable, can be prepared in many different ways. That’s why I was intrigued to try these easy Pesto Eggs everyone on the internet seems to be making. Eggs are full of protein and even the pickiest eaters like my 3 year old likes them so it was a no-brainer for us to give this easy breakfast recipe a go!
Where did this easy egg recipe come from?
We’re not sure who was the original or first-ever creator of pesto eggs as most often TikTok recipes are recreations of recipes that have already been done. However, we can be sure that the person who gave pesto eggs its current fame is @amywilichowski whose video went viral and has racked up 1.4MM views. If you look at the #PestoEggs hashtag on TikTok you’ll see the the craze has caught on with 131MM views and counting for the tag.
How do you make pesto eggs?
The beauty of this recipe is that you use the oils from pesto to grease your pan so there is no additional oil or butter needed to make your favorite eggs. Sunnyside eggs make sense to layer on toast, but you can definitely give your eggs a quick scramble if that’s how you like them. The original TikToker layered her pesto eggs over avocado and toast with a drizzle of honey, salt, pepper and red pepper flake.
We decided to go simple with a sunny side version over toasted sprouted toast, pepper, salt, and parsely as garnish. We used a store-bought pesto but you can easily make your own pesto or buy a fresh version from the deli section of your supermarket.
What can you serve with pesto eggs?
Anything that goes well with pesto and/or eggs would work here! Here are some options:

- burrata cheese
- ham or deli meats
Pesto Eggs Ingredients:
pesto (homemade or store-bought)
Pesto Eggs Recipe
- 2 eggs
- 2 TBSP pesto
- salt and pepper as needed
- parsley optional
- 2 slices bread your choice, toasted
- Heat a frying pan to medium heat. Add two heaping tablesppons of pesto and spread out with a spoon.
- Once the pesto starts bubbling from the oil releasing, add two eggs over them, and cook sunny side up on medium heat until your desired yolk softness.
- While the eggs are cooking, toast your bread. Add to a plate.
- Slide the eggs over the toast. Add salt and pepper and garnish with parsley (optional).
