How to make Cookie Monster Cookies
Step 1: Preparing the Dough
Begin by preparing a baking sheet with parchment paper, then set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
Slowly add in the flour and beat for about 2-3 minutes until a powder-like dough forms.
Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Once chilled, preheat the oven to 350°F. Take the dough and form 1-inch balls, then place them on the baking sheet.
With a flat-bottom glass, lightly sprayed with cooking spray, press down on the balls of cookie dough until ¼-inch thick. Bake the cookies for 15-18 minutes or until slightly golden brown.
Step 2: Preparing the Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the shortening until creamy. Separate the powdered sugar and milk into three batches and add each one to the bowl while beating.
Add the vanilla and continue to beat until the mixture is smooth. Add food coloring gel until the desired color is reached.
Transfer the frosting to a pastry bag with a star-shaped tip, then set aside. Using black frosting, pipe a mouth on each cookie. Use a toothpick to fill in the mouth.
With blue frosting, create the rest of Cookie Monster’s head, leaving a small part at the top unfrosted for eyes, and frosting on the back of the eyes to secure two of them onto each cookie.
Step 3: Finishing the Cookies
The cookies are now complete and ready to be enjoyed! Serve the cookies with a tall glass of cold milk and enjoy! Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
If you do freeze the cookies, make sure to thaw them at room temperature before serving.
The cookies will bring back wonderful childhood memories of everyone’s favorite character, Cookie Monster. Enjoy the cookies as a snack, dessert, or a fun treat with the kids.
