Fall is here and that means it’s apple season! My kids and I love going apple picking together. We usually end up having baskets of apples left over which we usually turn into delicious apple desserts! Today, we’re sharing how to turn apples into a simple healthy snack. These adorable apple fries in crinkle shapes are perfect for snacking.

What makes them stand out is the scrumptious caramel dip you do not want to omit!  If you’ve been hunting for a fall treat that’s not too sweet and yet tasty, these Apple Crinkle “Fries are just what you need. Why make apple fries?

  • Healthy Choice: Apples are a great source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They’re not only good for the heart but also boost immunity. When you pair them with our rich caramel dip, you’re in for a yummy snack while still providing some nutritious value.
  • Fun: The process of making these fries involves the use of a crinkle cutter, which is a neat tool that kids will love to experiment with (with adult supervision of course)
  • Versatile: These apple fries aren’t just a snack. They can be made into loaded apple “nachos” for dessert after dinner or even a refreshing appetizer!

Do you need a crinkle cutter?

The crinkle cutter makes a fun shape that makes these apple treats look more like french fries. But they are not necessary at all! You can just cut your apples into regular fry-shaped sticks.

How do you prevent apples from browning?

To prevent apples from browning after they’re cut you can try these methods:

Lemon Juice: Sprinkle or soak apple slices in a mixture of one part lemon juice and three parts water.

Salt Water: Soak apple slices in a solution of 1/2 teaspoon of salt per quart of water for about 3 minutes, then rinse in fresh water to remove the salty taste.

Honey Water: Mix two tablespoons of honey with one cup of water and soak the apple slices for 30 seconds.

Commercial Anti-Browning Solutions: These can be found at grocery stores and usually contain ascorbic acid.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Wash, core, and slice the apples. Don’t slice them too thin, about 3/8″ is great so they can be cut into fries.
  2. Using your crinkle cutter, cut the apples into ‘fry’ shapes.

*Note: apples will brown! If you don’t want to fuss with the steps it takes to prevent apples from browning, make the dip first and refrigerate (covered up to 3 days), and then cut the apples right before serving.

Creamy Caramel Dip

  1. In a mixing bowl, blend together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add a couple of spoonfuls of caramel sauce and mix until it’s a light caramel color.
  3. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl.
  4. Sprinkle the top with chopped peanuts. For the final touch, drizzle a generous amount of caramel sauce. Remember, the more textures and layers, the better!

Your apple fries are ready to be dunked into the delish creamy caramel dip!
