If you’ve never had a walking taco, it’s time! They’re fun for any gathering or party, an easy campfire meal, and are very kid friendly. Adults and kids will enjoy them equally!
Who doesn’t love a good taco recipe? Our Walking Tacos are made easy with ingredients everyone will likely enjoy. These crowd-pleasing tacos include Doritos tortilla chips layered with taco meat, cheese, salsa and sour cream.
What is a Walking Taco?
It’s essentially a “taco in a bag” that you can eat on the go, without any dishes and simply using your favorite taco ingredients in a chip bag. They get their name from the ease of being able to walk around with and eat.

Are there variations of this easy taco recipe?
There are so many ways you can change this recipe to fit what you want to eat or feed your family. You could use a variety of chips including corn chips, spicy Cheetos, or even plain tortilla chips rather than seasoned Doritos.
You could even use shredded chicken or beef chili instead of ground beef. The combination of beef chili and Fritos is also very delicious and a crowd pleaser.
There are also so many topping options including chopped peppers, chopped onions, queso, jalapeño slices, guacamole or avocado, black beans, tomatoes, green onions, shredded lettuce, sliced black olives, pico de gallo, cilantro, salsa verde, and corn salsa.
What about walking nacho taco bar?
Maybe you’re hosting a summer gathering of family or friends, a birthday party, graduation party, or even for Cinco de Mayo. This would be very easy to assemble and everyone can serve themselves with a variety of meats and any number of toppings! It’s guaranteed they’ll be everyone’s favorite! Easy assembly and the easiest cleanup of all parties.
Walking Tacos – Ingredients:
5 packages of your favorite snack sized tortilla chips
1 pound of Ground Beef
1 pack of Taco Seasoning
Shredded Cheddar or Cheese Blend
Salsa
Sour Cream
Garnish (optional) like cilantro
How do you make Walking Tacos?
In a medium skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain excess fat and add taco seasoning according to directions.
Just before serving, cut open chip bags. Set aside a few tortilla chips from the bag so they’re not all under the toppings and you’ll add them back in after all of the toppings. Add beef mixture, cheese, salsa and sour cream. If you’d prefer your chips to be more bite size, either lightly squeeze the bag before cutting it open or once it’s fully assembled. Serve with a fork and enjoy!
