How to make 4th of July fruit skewers

This is an easy assembly type of treat that requires minimal prep, no baking or difficult materials – our favorite to make!

Simply use a star cookie cutter to cut watermelon into stars. Alternate blueberries and mini marshmallows onto a skewer and top off with a watermelon star. So easy and festive!

Can I use other fruits?

Sure! We used watermelon and blueberries to stick with the red, white and blue theme, but you can use cantaloup, melon, apples or any hard fruit that is easy to cut into stars.

Instead of blueberries, you can thread raspberries or grapes.

It would be cute to make a veggie version as well and offer a fun dip along with the skewers.

What to serve fruit skewers with?

Fruit skewers are colorful, fun, and versatile. They can be paired with several other dishes or add-ons to create a wholesome meal or snack. Here are a few ideas:

  1. Dips: Yogurt-based dips, cream cheese dips, chocolate or caramel sauces, or a nut butter can complement the natural sweetness of the fruit. A simple honey and Greek yogurt dip is often a crowd-pleaser.

  2. Cheese: Depending on the fruit you’re using, cheese can be a great partner. Think of the classic pairing of apple with cheddar, or grapes with brie. You can even include small cubes of cheese directly on the skewers.

  3. Grilled Meat or Seafood: If you’re planning a summer barbeque, grilled chicken, shrimp, or fish can be a great savory contrast to your sweet fruit skewers.

  4. Pastries: Mini muffins, scones, or other pastries can be served alongside fruit skewers for a hearty brunch.

  5. Chilled Drinks: Serve fruit skewers with chilled beverages like iced tea, lemonade, or even a sparkling wine or prosecco for a light and refreshing meal.

  6. Salads: You can also serve fruit skewers with a light, fresh salad. It could be a simple green salad, a pasta salad, or even a grain salad like quinoa.

  7. Granola or Nuts: Sprinkling some granola or chopped nuts over the fruit skewers can add a nice crunch and a boost of protein.

  8. Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt: For a sweet treat on a hot day, pair fruit skewers with a scoop of ice cream or frozen yogurt.

  9. Pancakes or Waffles: For a decadent breakfast, serve fruit skewers with pancakes or waffles. The fruit can act as a healthy, fresh topping.

  10. Crepes: Light and versatile, crepes can be filled with a sweet or savory mixture, making them a great complement to fruit skewers.
