Use this neat trick in to how you bake cookie dough to make extra thick and tall fluffy bakery-style cookies.

Who doesn’t love thick, fluffy and extra-tall cookies? You know the kind you see at your favorite bakeries.

Once upon a time, I used to own several bakeries! While those bakeries are no longer around, I’m always happy to pass on my cookie tips! This is an easy food hack for anybody, whether you’re a pro baker or a total beginner.

It’s also a fun activity to make while baking with kids. My 6 year old @Dashbakesthegreats had a fun time molding these cookie mounds and building cookie mountains! A fun sensory food hack!

How to Make Extra Thick Cookies

All you need is your favorite drop cookie dough! Yep, that’s it! We actually used ready-made chocolate chip dough from Nestle to make this hack even easier! But if you want to make your favorite homemade cookie dough that’s even better!

Stack ‘Em Up!

Now, here’s the fun part: to make your cookies extra thick and fluffy, just stack one thick scoop of cookie dough on top of another and pop them in the oven! But remember, because they’re thicker, they might need a bit more time to bake.

You’ll want to shape them as more rounded ovals instead of circles so they bake taller. We used 2 oz scoops per each scoop so each cookie was 4oz of dough. You can go smaller but your cookies may not look as tall.

Chill them

Before you bake your cookies, it’s a good idea to chill the dough. It helps them keep their shape and gives them more time for the flavors to come together. We chilled ours for at least 30 minutes before baking.

Add Some Mix-ins

Another tip for making your cookies even more thick is to add yummy mix-ins. There are so many possibilities! You can add things like chocolate chips, candies, nuts, or dried fruit.
