Goldfish crackers are a classic kid snack that is easy to make with simple ingredients such as butter, flour, and cheese. Find out how to make your own easily for a healthy homemade snack! 

My kids love the crunchy, cheesy goodness of Goldfish crackers, but I’m not crazy about the extra additives and preservatives found in store-bought snacks. Making homemade cheese crackers is super easy! We’ve made them in different animal shapes before, but today, are sharing the popular goldfish shape most kids know and love (including mine!).

These natural, homemade snacks allow us to enjoy our favorite treats without compromising health. Making your own Goldfish crackers is not only surprisingly simple, but it also gives you complete control over the ingredients. Here’s how you can whip up a batch of these kids’ snacks that are healthier and just as tasty as the ones you buy.

Homemade Goldfish Crackers – Ingredients

  • 8 oz shredded cheddar cheese (use a block of cheese vs. pre-shredded for best results)
  • 4 TBSP unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/3 Tsp Kosher salt
  • 2 1/2 TBSP cold water

Homemade Goldfish Crackers

How to make homemade cheese crackers 

  • Step 1. Grate the cheese finely with a hand grater. Add butter, flour and salt to the bowl of grated cheese.
  • Step 2. Mix well and add your cold water water. Mash around (we used a potato masher, but you can use a fork, food processor, or whatever works well for you). If the dough is too dry, add a bit more water until you get a dough that comes together.
  • Step 3. Gather the dough into a ball and flatten into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until slightly firm.
  • Step 4. Roll the dough out to 3/8″ inch thick. Use your goldfish cutter to cut out shapes and set aside on a parchment-lined baking pan. at least an inch apart. 
  • Step 5. Bake in a preheated 350 degrees oven for about 12-15 minutes until the crackers are golden and puffed up. You’re done!
