Instructions
Step 1: Bake and Cool Your Cupcakes
Prepare 3 regular size cupcakes and 25 mini cupcakes using your favorite cake mix or recipe. Let them cool completely before decorating.
Step 2: Arrange the Cupcakes in the Sanderson Sister Layout
On your cake board, place one large cupcake at the top for each witch’s face. Surround each face cupcake with mini cupcakes for hair (above and around) and outfit (below). You’ll have three clusters total: Sarah, Winifred, and Mary. Reference the photo for placement.
Step 3: Frost the Faces
Using a flat spatula or offset spatula, smooth light skin tone buttercream over each large cupcake until completely covered.
Step 4: Pipe the Hair
- For Sarah, use pale yellow buttercream fitted with a 1M tip to pipe rosettes around the top and sides of her face cupcake.
- For Winifred, use reddish orange buttercream to pipe rosettes in her iconic tall wavy hair shape.
- For Mary, use dark chocolate brown buttercream to pipe rosettes, giving her a rounded, high updo style.
Step 5: Pipe the Outfits
- Below Sarah’s face, pipe red rosettes for her dress.
- Below Winifred, pipe green rosettes.
- Below Mary, pipe yellow rosettes.
Step 6: Add the Facial Details
Using a small round piping tip, pipe each witch’s eyes and mouth. Don’t forget Sarah’s mole!
