These Easy Owl Cupcakes are a hoot! Perfect for birthday parties, baby showers, or a fun dessert for the kids.

I’m always in the mood to make cute cupcakes. I love the big Oreo eyes on these cupcakes and have to admit that they’re one of my favorite parts. I think that animal food art is super fun and cute to make and I love how the kids gobble them up quickly, too. Pair these cute owl cupcakes with my Cute Owl Animal Toast and you could easily have a whole day dedicated to eating owl-themed food!

The kids are always excited to make these cupcakes because they’re kid-friendly for them as well. Starting them out early in the kitchen to help with decorating desserts and cooking is a great life skill to do.

PS. Scroll down below for an easier owl cupcake version kids can make! I made them with my 4 year old @Dashbakesthegreats and they were a big hit too!

The recipe is for these owl cupcakes below but again scroll down to see the kid-friendly ones above!

Why use a cake mix for making cupcakes?

If you’re running low on time, cake mix cupcakes are the best. It’s just a faster and more efficient way to make treats that are delicious.

I love how simple they are to put together and how easy it is to change the flavor of the cake mix to make any variety cupcakes.

How do you split up Oreo cookies without breaking them?

The key is to twist the Oreo cookies slowly so that they break apart without breaking the cookie. The slow part is the key. Just make sure that you’re holding both sides of the cookies with different hands and then twist. The Oreo should split apart just fine.

How do you store cupcakes

As long as you keep cupcakes stored in an airtight container, you can store them at room temperature. However, if you want to store them in the fridge, you can!

Can you freeze Oreo Owl Cupcakes?

You can always freeze cupcakes that are baked completely and cooled. This is a simple way to meal prep ahead and have a nice dessert ready and waiting in the freezer. If you want to unthaw the cupcakes, just move them to the fridge and give them a few hours of time. You can then add all the frosting and toppings to your owl cupcakes with oreo once they’re thawed and ready.
